CAVITIES and ABSCESSES

Do you ever see a black spot in your teeth or a hole in your teeth??

Well, if you do, it might be a cavities made by the infection called tooth decay.
If that tooth hurts some of the time, such as when you eat, drink, or breathe cold air, it probably has a cavity in it. You will get cavities in your teeth if you eat sweet food and then do not clean your teeth.
If you see a cavity starting in your mouth or feel a tooth hurting you, get help right away by going to the dentist before the pain get worse.

If you let that cavities bigger, it might become an abscess. Abscess is chronic infection accompanied by localized pain, swelling, and there are clear limits to the fluctuations due to the cavity containing pus. (Pus is a liquid consisting of many bacterias).
A tooth with an abscess needs treatment at once, before the infection can go into the bone. In most cases the tooth must be taken out.

How to Recognize an Abscess
  • Pain all the time, even when trying to sleep
  • Tooth often feels longer, and even a bit loose
  • Tooth hurts when it is tapped
  • A sore on the gums near where the root ends (gum bubble)
  • Swelling of the gums around the tooth, or swelling of the face on the same side as the bad tooth

What should we do if suddenly we got an abscess?

Well, If there's no dentist around you, you can do this for reducing the pain:

1. Wash the inside of your mouth with warm water. This removes any bits of food caught inside the cavity.
2. Take aspirin for pain.
3. Reduce the swelling by holding warm water inside your mouth near the bad tooth.
Wet a cloth with hot water and hold it against your face. Do not use water hot enough to burn yourself!

After the pain is reduced, go to the dentist for better treatment.
