Parts of Our Tooth

Our teeth is very important to us for chewing, speaking, and many more.
But do you know what lies in it
and what is parts of our tooth??

Well, In general, parts of our tooth is consist of Crown and Root

Crown is part of the teeth covered by enamel and placed above gums.
Root is parts of the teeth covered by cementum and supported by the alveolar bone from maxilla and mandible.

Layers in Our Tooth

Enamel
Enamel is derived from ectoderm tissue. It is the hardest, most powerful tissue in our body, therefore it is the protector of the most powerful teeth to stimuli during mastication.
Email does not have the ability to replace the damaged parts. When it erupts, there will be changes in the chemical composition of tooth enamel that make it stronger against various stimuli it receives, whether it is mechanical, thermal, or chemical.

Dentin
Dentin is derived from mesoderm tissue and have the same composition and origin as bone. Unlike enamel, dentine has the ability to repair itself. It supports the enamel and have nerve fibers in it.

Cementum
Cementum is part of the tooth and periodontium tissue because it connects teeth to the jawbone with tissue contained in the periodontal membrane. Cementum has several functions such as a protector, supporting teeth, and provide food for the teeth, especially in old age.

Pulp
Pulp is the soft tissue of the tooth. Pulp tissue derived from mesenchyme and has various functions: as a building, retaining, containing nutrients, and contains nerve cells / sensory.

CAVITIES and ABSCESSES

Do you ever see a black spot in your teeth or a hole in your teeth??

Well, if you do, it might be a cavities made by the infection called tooth decay.
If that tooth hurts some of the time, such as when you eat, drink, or breathe cold air, it probably has a cavity in it. You will get cavities in your teeth if you eat sweet food and then do not clean your teeth.
If you see a cavity starting in your mouth or feel a tooth hurting you, get help right away by going to the dentist before the pain get worse.

If you let that cavities bigger, it might become an abscess. Abscess is chronic infection accompanied by localized pain, swelling, and there are clear limits to the fluctuations due to the cavity containing pus. (Pus is a liquid consisting of many bacterias).
A tooth with an abscess needs treatment at once, before the infection can go into the bone. In most cases the tooth must be taken out.

How to Recognize an Abscess
  • Pain all the time, even when trying to sleep
  • Tooth often feels longer, and even a bit loose
  • Tooth hurts when it is tapped
  • A sore on the gums near where the root ends (gum bubble)
  • Swelling of the gums around the tooth, or swelling of the face on the same side as the bad tooth

What should we do if suddenly we got an abscess?

Well, If there's no dentist around you, you can do this for reducing the pain:

1. Wash the inside of your mouth with warm water. This removes any bits of food caught inside the cavity.
2. Take aspirin for pain.
3. Reduce the swelling by holding warm water inside your mouth near the bad tooth.
Wet a cloth with hot water and hold it against your face. Do not use water hot enough to burn yourself!

After the pain is reduced, go to the dentist for better treatment.

How to Brush Your Teeth Properly

Brushing teeth before and after sleeping is a common activity to gain healthy teeth and avoid having bad breath. But, do you know that if we can’t brush our teeth properly, it can damage our teeth and gum as well?
It can make our gum swelling and also gingival recession. So, in order to take care of our gum and teeth we must be able to brush our teeth properly.

MUST KNOWN PRINCIPLE IN BRUSHING TEETH

Well, before we know about the technique, we must know these four principle in brushing our teeth, if you know these principle, I can guarantee your teeth will be clean....so,, check it out!!!

1.It must be able to clean the entire deposits which located in tooth and gum surfaces, especially the gum pocket and interdental space.
2.The toothbrush movement doesn’t damage the gum tissue and tooth layer by not giving excessive pressure.
3.Correct way of brushing and do it efficiently.
4.Do it three time a day (after breakfast, lunch, and before sleeping)

The purpose of brushing teeth is to clean the plaque away. First, brush it from the back right / left to the front and ends in the other side.

There are some ways in brushing teeth:

(a)Vertical movement.

Direction :move your brush up and down while the upper and lower jaws closed. This movement is for the tooth surface facing the cheek (buccal/labial), while for the tooth surface facing the tongue/palate (lingual/palatal), the movement to brush up and down in an open mouth.
Disadvantage : if it is not done properly, it can cause gingival recession/reduction in the gums so that the roots of the teeth will be visible.

(b)Horizontal movement.

Direction of brush movement : back and forth from buccal and lingual surfaces. Rubbing motion on the field known as chewing brush scrub. It's easy to do and in accordance with the form of chewing surface anatomy. Combination vertical-horizontal movements, it must be done carefully because it can cause gum recession / tooth abrasion layer.

(c)Roll movement techniques / Stillman modifications.

It is the most simple movements, most recommended, efficient and reach all parts of the mouth. Fur brush is placed on the surface of the gums, far from the surface occlusal / field chewing, hair brush tip led to the apex / tip of the root, move slowly through the surface of the tooth so that the back of the brush head moves in a curve.

At the time the fur brush through the crown, almost upright position against the surface of the email. Repeat this movement until approximately 12 times, so no one missed. This method can massages gums and cleaning the interproximal / between the teeth from food debris.

Your Teeth and Gums

Your teeth and gums, do they look healthy?
Just take a look at your mouth once in a while, are they healthy? Do you know that to get strong, teeth need healthy gums and healthy gums need clean teeth.

So….What can good teeth give you?
Well….it can gives you :

GOOD HEALTH
GOOD LOOKS
GOOD SPEECH
GOOD EATING
GOOD BREATH
and many more...

So, when you think about your teeth, you must also think about your gum too. The question is why do we need to think of it too?? Because if your gum are healthy, then your teeth will be healthy too,and one more thing, gums are needed for holding your teeth in the correct position.

Everyday, we eat different kinds of food like meat, vegetables, fruits, and so on. Each of them are needed to gain energy and nutrition for our body. If we lack of them, we won’t be able to do something better. So, what’s the relationship between food an teeth??
Well, teeth are needed to eat the food, but we must also choose what kinds of food that better for our body and also our teeth. Nuts, maize, fruits, and meat are some of the best foods-but they are difficult to bite and chew if your teeth are loose and hurting!

WHAT SHOULD WE DO IN ORDER TO TAKE CARE OF OUR TEETH??

EAT ONLY GOOD HEALTHY FOODS

The best food is food that you grow or raise yourself. Mix different kinds of food together and eat several times a day. This helps your body as well as your teeth and gums to stay strong and healthy. Traditional food is usually good food.

Sweet food, especially the kind you buy from the store, can mix with germs and make cavities-holes in the teeth. Soft food sticks to the teeth easily and it, too, can make a coating of germs and food on the teeth that starts an infection in the gums-gum disease.

CLEAN YOUR TEETH EVERY DAY

If you do not clean properly, the food that IS left on your teeth can hurt the teeth as well as the gums near them.
Bits of food stay longer in grooves and hiding places. This is where both tooth and gum problems start.

Therefore It is better to clean your teeth carefully once every day than to clean poorly many
times a day.

GO TO THE DENTIST ONCE IN SIX MONTH TO CHECK YOUR ORAL HEALTH

Going to the dentist is a must to make sure your teeth and its surroundings are in a proper condition.
